PORTLAND — The Oceanside wrestling team trekked south on Saturday, Jan. 14 for the Zeb Leavitt Invitational  tournament, a meet hosted by Cheverus which saw the Mariners — thanks, largely, to twins Gavin and Maddie Ripley — right in the thick of things among the 16 squads and independnents.

The Mariners got wins from Maddie Ripley (106 pounds) and twin brother Gavin Ripley (132), which helped them amass 97.5 points and finish sixth.

Phoenix Martinez (120) also pinned down a second-place finish, while Austin White-Ortiz (113) and Nathaniel Small (160) earned fourths.

The team scores included: Windham/Gray-New Gloucester/Westbrook 138, Cony of Augusta/Messalonskee of Oakland 110, Noble of North Berwick 105, Cheverus/Falmouth 104, Mountain Valley of Rumford 100.5, Oceanside 97.5, Dirigo of Dixfield 78, Biddeford/Thornton Academy of Saco 68, Gardiner 50, Deering of Portland 37.5, Fryeburg Academy 34, Monmouth Academy/Richmond, Lake Region of Naples 24, Lisbon/Oak Hill 7 and Winthrop 3. Hall-Dale of Farmingdale and the independents did not compile points.

The individual Oceanside results, with Mariners listed first, were:

106 pounds — Maddie Ripley pinned Isaiah Chisholm, FA, at 0:51; pinned Addison Leger, Wolf, at 0:11; and pinned Owen Gray, Nob, at 2:35 in the championship final. Ripley finished first.

113 pounds — Austin White-Ortiz was pinned by Jackson Mulligan, Nob, at 5:19; pinned Gaby Turner, Lis/Oak, at 2:25; beat Jack Fenton, C/F, 13-7; and was pinned by Mulligan, Nob, at 0:37, in the consolation final. White-Ortiz finished fourth.

120 pounds — Phoenix Martinez pinned Reagahan Nisbit, MtVal, at 0:52; pinned Kaleb Dustin, Nob, at 3:43; and lost by forfeit to Ayden Cofone, Wolf, in the championship final. Martinez finished second.

126 pounds — Clay Whited beat Les Ridley, C/M, 18-3; was pinned by Eli Farias, Gar, at 4:20; and was pinned by Jacob Hebert, Nob, at 3:41.

132 pounds — Gavin Ripley pinned Ethan Olsen, Dir, at 0:52; pinned Owen Pillsbury, Wolf, at 1:05; and beat Domenick Smith, B/TA, 14-0, in the championship final. Ripley finished first.

138 pounds — Patrick Faller, Ocean, pinned Tyler Worcester, Wolf, at 3:23; was pinned by Nate Gamache, MtVal, at 4:42; and lost by forfeit to Anderson St. Onge, C/M.

145 pounds — Jacob Barstow pinned Colemn Ballweg, Deer, at 0:27; was pinned by Vincent Madrid, LR, at 2:59; and lost to Sam Schultz, M/R, 12-3.

160 pounds — Nathaniel Small beat Kaden Burch, Nob, 7-5; lost to Brogan Danzig, C/F, 5-3; pinned Matt McWilliams, MtVal, at 3:58; and lost to Liam Schleis-Hoyman, C/M, 10-7, in the consolation final. Small finished fourth.

170 pounds — Joey Brown was pinned by Haden Fox, FA, at 1:56; and was pinned by Archie Rubin, Deer, at 3:47.

195 pounds — Michael Matthews pinned Connor Columb, B/TA, at 0:50; was pinned by Pedro Lombi, Deer, at 3:12; and lost to Timothy Viet, Nob, 8-4.

220 pounds — Max Crute pinned Braley Farr, M/R, at 3:37; was pinned by Isaiah Bradeen, Dir, at 1:43; and was pinned by Sean Leach, Nob, at 0:36.

285 pounds — Takuma Steinberger pinned Mandela Zabot-Hall, Deer, at 0:44; pinned Skyler McKenzie, M/R, at 1:36; was pinned by Jonny Lettre, C/M, at 1:00; and was pinned by Andrew Wisecup, Dir, at 0:33.
