ROCKLAND — Coming off two consecutive years as mayor of Rockland, Ed Glaser was elected Tuesday, Jan. 10 to chair the Knox County Commissioners for the next year.

The three-member commission voted Jan. 11 to elect its officers for the year. Sharyn Pohlman was elected vice chair.

At the Jan. 11 meeting, commissioners also voted to transfer $342,000 in federal CARES Act money from a paving project to removal of obstructions. Knox County Regional Airport Manager Jeremy Shaw said the project entails removal of trees and shrubs or topping off of trees that would obstruct aircraft approaches to the runways.

This project involves obstructions along Buttermilk Lane. He said the property owners have been contacted and work is expected to begin in four to six weeks.

The Commissioners also approved changes in contracts with the labor unions representing the deputies and jail that reflect the higher pay approved to retain and attract new employees.

The Commissioners also were informed of the planned retirement of longtime finance employee Barbara Sylvester who has been with the county for 36 years.
