CAMDEN — Folk musicians Cindy Kallet and Grey Larsen will perform a SoundCheck concert 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, at the Camden Opera House, 29 Elm St. The one-hour show is sponsored by StudioMind.

The duo’s repertoire includes Kallet’s sparkling original songs, distinctive settings of traditional Irish music, Scandinavian-style fiddle duets, old-time fiddle and guitar tunes from southern Indiana — and the new music they are inventing together. While deeply rooted in folk traditions (and influenced by the Renaissance and Baroque music both were immersed in growing up), the duo offers a variety and breadth of musical territory.

Kallet, a songwriter, singer and guitarist with five solo albums to her credit, was part of the Midcoast folk scene some years ago. Multi-instrumentalist Larsen is a highly accomplished Irish flute and tin whistle player whose acclaimed books on those instruments have sold more than 15,000 copies worldwide.

The couple’s visits to Maine are always anticipated treat. Concertgoers can look forward to vocal duets, guitar, Irish flute, Irish alto flute, tin whistle, concertina, harmonium, duet fiddling, and plenty of stories that put the music into a personal context.

Choose-your-own reserved tickets are $10, and advance purchase is encouraged via camdenoperahouse.com and 236-3154. Doors will open at 7 p.m. SoundCheck shows also are livestreamed on the opera house’s Facebook page.

Next up at Camden Opera House will be a free Downtown Poetry Party on Jan. 27; and a toboggan nationals weekend show by the David Mallet Band on Feb. 3.
