ROCKLAND — The Rockland Historic Preservation Commission and The Strand Theatre sponsor a monthly historic architecture scavenger hunt in Rockland. Winners will receive two movie passes for The Strand.
This scavenger hunt is meant to encourage residents to notice the architectural details that add to the historic flavor of Rockland.
Can you find this crowning detail on a neoclassical style building in Rockland?
The neoclassical style of architecture was used for buildings of prominent institutions like banks and schools. Neoclassical buildings possess architectural details from classical Greek and Roman periods. The main entrance is in the center of the symmetrical façade which may contain columns, pilasters, arched openings, and decorative sculpture.
To enter the contest, email the street address or building name, with your name and your email address to: RocklandHistoric@gmail.com. Entries must be received before 5 p.m. on Jan. 27.
A correct answer will be drawn from a hat. The winner will be notified by email and will win two movie passes at the Strand. You do not have to be a resident of Rockland to enter.
