ROCKLAND — Firefighters made quick work Friday afternoon of a fire on a small building on a barge off Atlantic Street.

The Dec. 30 fire was in a control room on a barge that has not been used in more than a month, according to Rockland Assistant Fire Chief Patrick Lowe. The building was a small metal one with a wooden interior frame. The room had been used to control a crane on the barge as well as a break room.

There was still power in the small building.

Crews remained on scene until a fire marshal investigator arrived. A human element is not suspected as the cause.

Crews were able to leave by 4:30 p.m.
