Miller School holiday

Miller School celebrated the week before vacation with various themed clothing days including school colors, crazy outfits, and red and white day. On Wednesday afternoon, students could stay and make gingerbread houses, and then Thursday’s arrival at school was highlighted by a pair of school staff in inflatable costumes – a gingerbread person and a snowman. It’s hard not to smile when the staff embraces the fun.

Food pantry schedule

The Waldoboro Food Pantry has posted its scheduled for 2023, which starts with distributions on Jan. 3. Pantry days will happen on the first and third Tuesdays of each month, which means that there will occasionally be three weeks between distribution days. The pantry serves residents of Waldoboro, Bremen and Nobleboro, and most recently served 332 people from 133 households. There were four new families from Waldoboro and one from Bremen, and new sign-ups are welcome on any distribution day.

Clothing donations

Another charitable enterprise, the Waldoboro Free Clothing Closet, is looking for donations of personal care items such as soap, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, razors, dish detergent, laundry detergent, toothpaste, wipes, etc., to help their clients stay clean and healthy. There is a donation bin outside the building at 124 Friendship Road, and the building is open on Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. after the holidays. The next day it opens is Jan. 6. Right now, the clothing is plentiful, but the personal care items are desperately needed.

Cakewood New Year feast

One of the newest entertainment venues in Waldoboro is now offering fanciful feasts. The first one was on the Winter Solstice, but upcoming dates include Jan. 7 for a New Year Sauerkraut Feast and Jan. 21 for the Rainbow Feast. Tickets are available on the cakewoodcreativearts.com website, where one can also learn about upcoming concerts and other events. Cakewood is located at 85 Friendship Road in what used to be the Waldoboro United Methodist Church.
