ROCKLAND — A 35-year-old Warren man was arrested Christmas night, accused of assaulting a woman.

Zachary W. Thorbjornson was charged with felony domestic violence assault and misdemeanor criminal trespass. He was arrested Christmas night by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office. The assault charge is classified as a felony because he had a prior domestic violence assault conviction in August 2019 in Knox County, according to paperwork filed in court.

According to an affidavit filed by the Sheriff’s Office with the Knox County court, officers responded to a report by a woman in South Thomaston that she was concerned that Thorbjornson was coming over to her house. When an officer called the woman, she said Thorbjornson had arrived and was fighting with her boyfriend outside the house.

The suspect had left prior to the arrival of officers. The woman said Thorbjornson had attempted to enter the house to pick up a daughter they shared but the woman declined to let him in and pushed him from entering her residence. He punched her in the face, according to the affidavit. The officer reported that the woman’s right cheek was red and swollen.

Thorbjornson later called police from another location to say that he had been denied access to his daughter. He denied punching the woman.

At his initial court appearance Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 27, Judge Sean Ociepka set bail at $1,000 cash. Thorbjornson’s next court date is set for March 2.
