WALDOBORO — The Medomak Valley High School football team not only dominated on the gridiron in 2022, but also commanded the realm of sportsmanship.

The Panthers are the recipients of the 2022 Erwin Clement Sportsmanship Award, annually given to the 11-man football team which displays the best sportsmanship, as voted by the Augusta Chapter of Football Officials.

The Panther football program has won a bevy of sportsmanship honors under coach Ryan Snell’s tutelage since 2015, with one more to add to the awards cabinet or hung on the school walls.

“Really proud of the guys on this one,” said Medomak Valley coach Ryan Snell. “This award is voted on by the officials. They’re obviously out there in the trenches where the guys are during the most physical and emotional times of the game. The guys are expected to go about things the right way as best they can, and for that to be recognized is something they should be really proud of.”

This fall, Medomak Valley won its first regional championship, in addition to competing in its first state Class C title game.
