ROCKLAND — There was plenty of competitive high school wrestling on Thursday night, Dec. 15 at South School when a trio of squads from Knox and Lincoln counties — with about 30 miles overall distance between them — converged on the mats for early-season fun.
In the end, the Oceanside Mariners stayed perfect thus far with wins over the Medomak Valley Panthers of Waldoboro and Lincoln Academy Eagles of Newcastle. LA also beat county neighbor MVHS in a tight affair.
Oceanside defeated LA 48-24 and Medomak Valley 42-30. The Eagles also beat the Panthers 31-30 after the opponents tied 30-30. The match was decided on criteria: head-to-head matches, won by LA 3-1.
There also were a bundle of forfeits by the teams on the night.
The individual results for Oceanside and Medomak Valley included:
106 pounds — Oceanside had a double-forfeit with Lincoln Academy and Medomak Valley. Medomak Valley and Lincoln Academy had a double-forfeit.
113 pounds — Maddie Ripley, Ocean, won by forfeit over Lincoln Academy and Medomak Valley. Medomak Valley and Lincoln Academy had a double-forfeit.
120 pounds — Austin White-Ortiz, Ocean, was pinned by Adam St. Cyr, LA; and pinned Mariah Young, Med, at 1:28. Young, Med, was pinned by St. Cyr, LA, at 0:34.
126 pounds — Phoenix Martinez, Ocean, won by forfeit over Lincoln Academy and Medomak Valley. Medomak Valley and Lincoln Academy had a double-forfeit.
132 pounds — Oceanside forfeited to Delia Saft, LA; and had a double-forfeit with Medomak Valley. Medomak Valley forfeited to Saft, LA.
138 pounds — Gavin Ripley, Ocean, won by forfeit over LA; and pinned Zach Steeves, Med, at 0:55. Steeves, Med, won by forfeit over Lincoln Academy.
145 pounds — Patrick Faller, Ocean, won by forfeit over LA; and was pinned by Shamus Pease, Med, at 1:32. S. Pease, Med, won by forfeit over Lincoln Academy.
