ROCKLAND — The UPS store in the Harbor Plaza Shopping Center will be closing, leaving the 70 customers who have mail boxes there having to find another place to get their mail delivered.

Vaughn Deal, owner of the franchise, said the business is closing because he wants to retire and he has found no buyers.

Deal has owned the business for 30 years. The first 10 to 15 years the store was Mailboxes Etc. and then became a UPS franchise.

The pandemic that struck nearly three years ago led to a dramatic increase in business for the local store. Deal said the first Christmas during the pandemic in 2020 saw 50 percent more business than any previous Christmas.

The packing and mailing business has remained busy since then, he noted.

Deal said no buyers have come forward, pointing out that a new owner would need to agree to a 10-year agreement with UPS and spend $250,000 to remodel the space.

The Cushing resident said he wants to spend time traveling upon his retirement.
