ROCKLAND — Rockland police arrested a man Friday for robbery at Shaw’s Supermarket.

Police said in a news release that officers responded at 11:35 a.m. on Dec. 2 to a report of a male stealing from the store and fighting with employees. Upon the officer’s arrival, Rockland Police made contact with 25-year-old Lucas Ross, who was trying to flee the scene.

Ross was most recently living in Owls Head but also referred to himself as a transient.

Through their investigation, officers learned that Ross had assaulted an employee while stealing items from the store. Ross was arrested and taken to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport to be cleared before being taken to the Knox County Jail in Rockland. While at Pen Bay, the suspect attempted to escape custody but was quickly apprehended.

Ross was taken to the jail and booked on charges of Robbery (Class A), disorderly conduct, and attempted escape. He is also being held on a probation hold.

Ross may make his initial appearance Monday, Dec. 5, in the Knox County court.
