WALDOBORO — Each year District 3 of the Maine Music Educators Association awards one member the distinction of Music Educator of the Year. The purpose of this award is to honor a music educator who demonstrates high standards of professional conduct and exceptional practice in the field of music education in the schools of Maine.

Some of the qualifying attributes for the award include: evidence of willingness to share knowledge with colleagues, is an innovator in his/her professional practice, service to district and/or state music educators’ organizations, and strives to provide a quality music program.

Medomak Valley High School Band Director Peter Stuart was named the 2022 MMEA District III Music Educator of the Year. Stuart has long been recognized as a leader within the district having served as president from 2013 to 2019 as well as hosting and managing many events within the district. He is well known for the connections that he makes with his students, his ability to nurture musical talent and his continual pursuit of quality within his music program at Medomak Valley High School.
