Knox County saw five additional COVID-19 cases during the past day, the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported Thursday, Dec. 1.

Testing at the Rockland wastewater treatment plant on Nov. 10 showed the amount of the virus remained low during the first 10 days of the month.

Since the pandemic began in Maine in March 2020, 7,718 Knox County residents have been diagnosed with the virus (This does not include results from at-home tests), 117 have been admitted to hospitals, and 49 have died.

Statewide, an additional 192 cases were reported during the past day. There was one additional death reported statewide Dec. 1, increasing the number to 2,723.

The CDC reports 131 Mainers currently in the hospital with the virus. The peak was 436 in early January. Of the 131 hospitalized, 16 are in critical care units and two on a ventilator. Thirty-seven critical care beds are available in Maine.
