THOMASTON — Thomaston Main Street is sponsoring the town’s first annual Downtown Christmas Festival on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2-4 p.m. A host of family-friendly events are planned to get attendees into the holiday spirit.

The day’s events will primarily be centered in the downtown area of Main Street. From 2-3:30 p.m., visitors are invited to view and vote on their favorite downtown window displays, stop by RisingTide Boxing (144 Main St.) to make wildlife-friendly decorations to hang on the town Christmas tree, and head over to Watts Hall (174 Main St.) to write letters to Santa and enjoy complimentary hot chocolate and cookies.

At 3:30 p.m. attendees will parade to the Town Mall, complete with Christmas carols led by local pastor JB Usher of Solid Rock Church. Once at the Mall, children will decorate the town Christmas tree with their handmade ornaments and Santa Claus will be on hand to light the tree and herald the arrival of the holiday season.

A number of businesses in town are extending their hours as a part of the festivities. FlipSide Coffee (189 Main St.) will be hosting an after-hours pop-up shopping event featuring local Midcoast artisans, and Flaura (185 Main St.) will be open late to celebrate with Prosecco and holiday cheer.

The Downtown Christmas Festival coincides with a number of other events in town, including the first day of the Knox Museum’s Holiday Open House at Montpelier and the second night of Watts Hall Community Arts’ presentation of “Walkin’ the Line – A Tribute to Johnny Cash.”
