NEWCASTLE — Heartwood Theater presents “Merry Christmas, George Bailey!,” the 1940s Lux Radio Theater Show adapted from Frank Capra’s movie “It’s a Wonderful Life,” one weekend only, Friday and Saturday, Dec. 2 and 3.

Imbued with warmth, humor and nostalgia, this beloved story exudes “community” — the realization that each person’s life is inextricably intertwined with countless others. The ripple effect is incalculable; lives are changed and history is made, as we move about our daily lives.

A throwback to days before television, when families sat around the radio tuned in for news and entertainment, live radio theater-style theater is just plain fun! In a warm, holiday stage setting, this story of hope and renewal unfolds with a full array of on-stage sound effects, fun musical commercial breaks for local business sponsors, holiday vocal solos … and a bit of audience participation.

Reservations are strongly recommended for the three performances in the Poe Theater at Lincoln Academy, 81 Academy Hill Road — Friday and Saturday, Dec. 2 and 3, at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, Dec. 3, at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for students,  available by calling 207-563-1373 or emailing info@heartwoodtheater.org.
