We are headed into the holidays with kennels full of dogs and cats. Although we love taking care of them, it is no substitute for a real home. So many of these former pets know what it is like to have a family and can’t quite figure out why they are here. Others have spent most of their lives outdoors and are only now realizing how nice it is to be inside, safe, warm and cared for. All of them deserve a home of their own. From the youngest kitten to the 12-year-old dog, finding them homes is our ultimate goal.

I am hoping someone out there will read about the two orphans I am highlighting today and realize their home just might need another family member. If you think it might be you, simply go to our website popehumane.org and apply to adopt. Once approved, just come on over and see some of the wonderful cats, dogs and small animals we have ready to complete your family.  We are open Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

My feline pet pick is 4-year-old Karlee. She is a stunning grey and white tabby with yellow eyes. Karlee had originally gone home from our shelter but seemed less than enthused to share her new home with another cat. People, however, are a different story. Karlee loves to be petted and rolls on her back for belly rubs. She likes to have her favorite toys nearby, making it easier to play at a moment’s notice.

My canine pet pick was also adopted from our shelter many years ago. Ruby finds herself without a home as her family has passed away. So now here she is, almost 12 years-old, a bit arthritic, with eyesight not quite as sharp as it used to be. Ruby deserves to spend the rest of her life being spoiled, sleeping in a big comfy bed, eating yummy treats and going for walks in the fresh air. Ruby will let you know when she wants her walks and always likes her people close by. She is a quiet, sweet girl who just wants a companion.

Our wish list this week includes: Kleenex tissues, cat toys and paper towels and gift certificates to Walmart, Staples and other local businesses.

Thank you!
