ROCKLAND — A 33-year-old Waldoboro man made his initial court appearance Thursday on charges that included attempting to strangle a woman.

Judge John Martin set bail Nov. 10 at $2,500 cash for Chase S. Breen on charges of Class B aggravated assault and obstructing report of a crime. The bail had been agreed to by the defense and district attorney’s office.

An affidavit filed in the Knox County court by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office states that officers responded to a domestic violence call on Depot Road in Warren shortly before 3 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9.

The woman said Breen had hit her, bit her finger, threw her against the wall, and tried to strangle her. She said during the attack, she couldn’t breath and thought she was going to die.

The woman was taken to a hospital and when the deputy was interviewing her, Breen called her. He refused to meet with the officer, according to an affidavit. An arrest warrant was obtained and he was located and arrested that night and taken to the Knox County Jail.
