St. GEORGE — A school bus van struck a full-sized bus Wednesday afternoon in St. George.

There were 33 students on the full-size bus. No one was injured.

According to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 3 p.m., Nov. 9, the Knox Regional Communications Center received information of a crash involving a school bus on the Wallston Road in St. George. A school bus, full size, operated by Randall Elwell, 53, of St. George, was stopped at the intersection of Wallston Road and River Road waiting for another school bus to arrive and pick up students.

A 2020 school bus van, operated by Melissa Elwell, 57, of South Thomaston, was pulling in behind the full size school and, due to operator error, failed to stop completely and struck the full size school bus in the rear.

There were no injuries, including the 33 juvenile students of various ages on the full size bus. There were no passengers on the bus van. The full size bus had minor damage and the bus van sustained disabling damage and was towed.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by St. George Fire and Emergency Medical Services and Automaster.
