APPLETON — Celebrate the release of Ellen Taylor’s recently published book of poems titled “Homelands” Saturday, Nov. 19, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Appleton Library, 2916 Sennebec Road. There will be light refreshments served and poetry readings by the author. Copies of the book will be available for sale with profits benefiting the Appleton Library.

Ellen M. Taylor of Appleton will read from “Homelands,” recently published by Moon Pie Press. Author and reviewer BJ Ward wrote that the collection “shows again how home might not be something one has to deserve… drawing from many sources, ranging from the Bible to Adrienne Rich to a roadside moose that is ‘[m]angy as an ancestor,’ [the book’s] wide arc seems to cinch closed in poem after poem, bringing so much history, empathy and yearning together in each poem’s purchase. [It’s] a gorgeously-wrought testament about how we arrive at our various homes.”

Dr. Taylor is the author of two previous collections of poetry, “Floating” and “Compass Rose,” as well as a chapbook, “Humming to Snails.” Taylor has also published scholarship on Maine poets Celia Thaxter, Elizabeth Coatsworth and Kate Barnes. She teaches writing, literature and gender studies at the University of Maine at Augusta.
