ST. GEORGE — On Wednesday, Nov. 2, at approximately 8:32 a.m., Knox Regional Communications Center received several 911 calls reporting a head-on crash, with serious injury, on the River Road (Route 131) near Barter Point Road in St. George.

The incident is still under investigation. According to the Sheriff’s Office, preliminary information indicates that a blue Ford Maverick, operated by Lawrence Schooley, 71, of St. George, was traveling south on the River Road and crossed left over the center-line, striking a brown Volvo operated by a 17-year-old of St. George.

Both operators and a 4-year old passenger of the Ford Maverick were taken to a local hospital for injuries. Both vehicles were towed due to disabling damage.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by St. George Fire & Emergency Medical Services, South Thomaston EMS, Maine State Police and Automaster.

The reconstruction is being done because of the possibility of a serious injury, according to Sheriff Patrick Polky.

Route 131 was still closed to traffic at that location as of 10:30 a.m.
