ROCKLAND — A 31-year-old Owls Head man was arrested Saturday, Oct. 29 accused of trying to strangle a woman and punching her in the face.

Daniel Salo was charged with Class B aggravated assault, Class C violation of a condition of release, felony operating after revocation and misdemeanor charges of obstructing report of a crime and violating conditions of release.

He made his initial appearance Monday afternoon, Oct. 31, in the Knox County Court where Judge Eric Walker ordered Salo held without bail on a motion by the district attorney’s office to revoke his bail on a previous charge. Salo’s next scheduled court hearing is Dec. 1.

An affidavit filed in court by Rockland police states that officers responded to a domestic assault call on Halls Lane early Saturday morning. The officer noticed the woman had bruises on her face and arms. There was also dried blood on the woman, according to the affidavit.

The woman told police that Salo had put her in headlocks, threw her to the floor, got on top of her and punched her in the face. The woman said she blacked out during one of the headlocks she was put in by Salo. He also took her cell phone so she could not call 911 and attempted to take her dog, according to the affidavit.

Salo left before officers arrived. He was located about nine hours later driving a vehicle in Rockland.
