ROCKLAND — The Center for Maine Contemporary Art (CMCA) presents an Animation Workshop Saturday, Nov. 12, from 1 to 4 p.m. for 5th through 8th graders at Midcoast School of Technology.

Learn about the world of animation during a workshop with educator and artist Brandon Soards. This three-hour session will explore the fundamentals of animation through historical techniques. Students will create 2D hand-drawn animations using frame-by-frame and keyframe processes similar to those created at the beginning of the 20th century. These core animation processes will prove timeless, as the same principles are critical to modern digital animation.

The cost is $80 for non-members and $75 for members. The registration deadline is Friday, Nov. 11, at noon.

All levels welcome. Please note, participants are responsible for providing their own transportation to and from Midcoast School of Technology, 1 Main St.

Soards, a native of the Midcoast area, grew up immersed in digital imaging on the campus of the Center for Creative Imaging. This nurtured a career in the fields of animation, video production, programming and graphic design. As a designer and educator, his highest pursuit is to help strengthen communities in Maine.
