WALDOBORO — The Medomak Valley football team clinched the top spot in Class C North for the second consecutive year on Saturday night, Oct. 22 as the Panthers prowled to a hard-fought, 14-12 high school gridiron win over Hermon.

The Panthers ended the season with a three-game victory streak, including wins over Hermon and Oceanside, who finished ranked second and third in the nine-team region.

On Saturday against the Hawks, Medomak Valley led 14-6 at halftime.

Hayden Staples rushed for 115 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries for Medomak Valley, while Aaron Reed (7 carries for 20 yards) and Liam Wilson (2 carries for 3 yards) also earned yards on the ground.

Wilson also had a 36-yard touchdown pass to Blake Morrison, while Jaiden Starr booted a pair of extra points for the Panthers.

The Panthers were led defensively by Kayden Wright (5 solo tackles, assisted tackles), Ethan Wood (2 solos, quarterback sack), Tucker Holgerson (3 solos), Reed (3 solos, assist), Marshall Addy (3 solos, 2 assists), Gatlin Bedenik (3 solos, assist), Chase Peaslee (2 solos), Porter Gahagan (6 solos, assist), Staples (7 solos, sack), Isaac Simmons (2 solos, assist) and Gabe Lash (3 solos, assist).

The Panthers will begin the regional playoffs on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. against No. 8 Belfast at McMann Field in Bath.
