Throughout a career of more than 25 years in the Maine newspaper business, I interviewed many, many candidates for local, state and national posts. Over the years, Maine, and especially Knox County, has sent some very talented and effective legislators to Augusta to represent our interests. This November, Knox County can again choose to send a terrifically dedicated and highly qualified person to Augusta to represent State Senate District 12. That person is Pinny Beebe-Center.

I have come to know Pinny through our mutual involvement in issues surrounding public education and the challenges facing our young people, in the matter of homelessness (especially as it affects families with school-age children) and bringing about meaningful reforms to Maine’s criminal justice system.

During her three terms as a representative in the Maine Legislature, Pinny demonstrated an enviable talent for bringing together people from diverse factions to work on solutions to the challenges facing the state. Party affiliation was not important. What was important was a commitment to doing the best possible for the greatest good. Pinny has continued her work to bring together diverse groups from Knox County communities to commit to finding solutions to some of society’s most vexing problems.

I have a great deal of respect and admiration for Pinny’s deeply held beliefs in the inherent worth and dignity of every person. Simply put, Pinny sincerely cares about doing what she can to help all people rise to meet their challenges, overcome them, and realize success in their lives.

Let’s send Pinny Beebe-Center to Augusta as our State Senator so she can continue to do her part in representing and serving the greatest good for us in Knox County and all of Maine.
