Knox County saw 11 additional COVID-19 cases during the past day, the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported Saturday, Oct. 1.

Since the pandemic began in Maine in March 2020, 7,429 Knox County residents have been diagnosed with the virus (This does not include results from at-home tests), 109 have been admitted to hospitals, and 45 have died.

Statewide, an additional 327 cases were reported during the past day. There were two additional deaths reported statewide Oct. 1, increasing the number to 2,582.

There were 11 additional people statewide admitted to a hospital in Maine with COVID-19 during the past day, with the number at 5,832 since the pandemic began in March 2020.

The CDC reports 178 Mainers currently in the hospital with the virus. The peak was 436 in early January. Of the 178 hospitalized, 31 are in critical care units and eight on ventilators. Forty-four critical care beds are available in Maine. The number of hospitalizations, patients admitted to critical care beds, and those on ventilators have increased over the past two weeks.
