ROCKLAND — A Rockland man was charged Thursday on a variety of charges following a month-long investigation.

Jason Whalen, 44, was charged Sept. 22 by Rockland police with possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, two counts of receiving stolen property, illegal possession of drugs, and two counts of violation of his conditions of release, Rockland police announced Sept. 23.

Whalen was already being held in jail on a domestic violence charge, according to Rockland police.

The investigation began Aug. 26 when Rockland officers responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the south end of Rockland.

Officers recovered illicit drugs, a firearm, ammunition, and a stolen license plate from inside the vehicle. The firearm was a handgun stolen out of Kennebec County, Rockland police said.

Whalen faces additional charges out of Kennebec County.
