Holy guinea pigs, Batman! Are you mulling over the idea of a small furry friend? Guinea pigs, rabbits, gerbils and hamsters are wonderful first pets, a way to teach responsibility to young animal lovers and also add a delightful element to a family. Animals come to the shelter in waves. Currently we have a LOT of guinea pigs: cute, furry, loveable and don’t forget that “weet weet” sound!
Three amiable boys are among our current herd: Arnold, Franklin and Lilo. They like to be held, enjoy treats and are full of guinea pig personality. Come on by the shelter during open hours (11 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday) and meet these cutie pies. If you want to bring a treat with you, they like veggies! If you decide to bring a small creature into your family, you can fill out an application right from the web page of the animal!
Thinking of someone? Know someone who has recently lost a pet or loved one? A nice way to let them know you are thinking of them is to give an “in honor” or “in memory” gift to the shelter. We send a dog or cat card to them at the address you provide. Your gift gives food and care to homeless pets and lets someone know you care. Visit www.PopeHumane.org/give-now or send a check to: PMHS, PO Box 1294, Rockland ME 04841.
If you are out shopping, we are low on 13-gallon garbage bags and dry kitten food. The dogs really appreciate the tiniest Milk Bones as treats. Thank you to caring donors and community members for helping homeless animals!
