BELFAST — The second high school cross-country meet of 2022 had a distinct Midcoast flavor as most of the area distance teams converged on Friday afternoon, Sept. 9 at Troy Howard Middle School for a Belfast-hosted event.

When the final runner had crossed the finish line, the Camden Hills of Rockport girls, behind another strong first-place performance from Jenna VanRyn in 20:47.43 among 57 runners on the 3.1-mile course, had raced to the top spot.

The Brunswick boys also finished first, as did Leavitt’s Logan Ouellette in 16:58.24 among the 67 competitors.

The girls team scores were: Camden Hills 37, Brunswick 62, Cony of Augusta 66, Medomak Valley of Waldoboro 93, Messalonskee of Oakland 106, Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield 144 and Leavitt of Turner, Nokomis of Newport, Belfast and Islesboro no score.

The boys team scores were: Brunswick 43, Camden Hills 59, Messalonskee 80, Cony 102, Leavitt 105, Nokomis 126 and Belfast and Medomak Valley no score.

The Windjammer girls, who annual challenge for league, regional and state titles, again dominated, with their five scoring runners in the first, fourth, eighth, ninth and 15th positions. Camden Hills had a total time of 1:54:24.76 and average runner time of 22:52.96.

Additionally, the Collamore twin sisters, Ava and Kaylee, led the Panthers with top-six performances.
