Knox County saw 12 additional COVID-19 cases during the past day, the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported Thursday, Sept. 8.

The state also reports another Knox County resident has died with the virus and for the second consecutive day another Knox County resident was admitted to a hospital with COVID-19.

Since the pandemic began in Maine in March 2020, 7,295 Knox County residents have been diagnosed with the virus (This does not include results from at-home tests), 104 have been admitted to hospitals, and 42 have died.

Statewide, an additional 293 cases were reported during the past day. There were 10 additional deaths reported statewide Sept. 8, increasing the number to 2,534.

There were nine additional people statewide admitted to hospitals in Maine with COVID-19 during the past day, with the number at 5,645 since the pandemic began in March 2020.

The CDC reports 169 Mainers currently in the hospital with the virus, up from 155 last week. The peak was 436 in early January. Of the 169 hospitalized, 21 are in critical care units and four on ventilators. Sixty-two critical care beds are available in Maine.
