CUSHING — Arts in the Barn hosts “A Watercolor Workshop with Mary Ann Heinzen” Friday through Sunday, Sept. 16 through 18, at 17 Hathorne Point Road.

This class will paint both en plein air and in the barn.

On Friday, Sept. 16, from 9 a.m. to noon, “Morning Light, Working Outside the Barn” focuses on the light, filtered by the surrounding trees.

On Saturday, Sept. 17, from 2 to 5 p.m., “Afternoon Light — Open Field and Sky” meets at Good Neighbor Park, 45 River Road.

On Sunday, Sept. 18, from 9 a.m. to noon, “Bring the Garden Inside — Back to the Barn” centers on a floral still life demonstration. Artists then have the choice of completing their plein air pieces, starting something new or working from the floral.

Working outdoors can be rewarding and challenging. Heinzen is a seasoned watercolor instructor and will begin each class with a watercolor demonstration. There will be individual feedback and assistance throughout the workshop. This workshop is for artists of all levels. Beginners are welcome.

In case of rain, classes will meet at the barn. The fee for the workshop is $150 for all three classes or $60 per class. Artists will need to provide their equipment for plein air painting. A supply list is available. To register, email
