BRUNSWICK — Camden Hills and Medomak Valley high school cross-country runners got their seasons off on the right — and left — foots on Friday, Sept. 2 in a campaign-starting meet hosted by the Brunswick Dragons.

Windjammer Jenna VanRyn followed her win in the preseason Panther two-mile event with a victory in the girls race on Friday. She outdistanced a field of 60 competitors over the 5-kilometer, or 3.1-mile, course in 19:44.4.

For the boys, Brunwick’s Eli Palmer finished first among 57 runners, in 16:17.7. The Dragon also finished first in the Panther two-miler.

Medomak Valley’s Noah Morris was the first Midcoast male finisher in fourth at 17:28.

The boys team scores were: Brunswick 28, Camden Hills 36, Morse of Bath 74, Boothbay Region/Wiscasset 106 and Medomak Valley no score.

The girls team scores were: Camden Hills 29, Brunswick 40, Medomak Valley 90, Boothbay Region/Wiscasset 99 and Morse 105.

The Windjammer girls won by placing their top-five scoring runners in the first, third, fourth, eighth and 13th spots. Camden Hills had an average runner time of 21:28.
