ROCKLAND — The Rockland City Council will consider a request to change the zoning on a parcel on Highland Street to allow additional housing to be built.

William Bird, who owns 22 Highland St., asked the Council in an Aug. 11 letter if the zone could be changed from commercial to residential B.

Bird said in the letter he wants to have the opportunity to build seven to nine townhouses on the property.

A preliminary vote on the zone change may be held Monday, Sept. 12.

He has owned the half-acre parcel since 2003. The property had previously been the site of the Church of the Latter Day Saints. Bird also owns an adjacent commercial lot that has frontage on Park Street.
