The Camden Herald, The Free Press and Pen Bay Pilot have served extensively as forums for the words of Ralph “Doc” Wallace since his arrival in Maine. In fact, one can wonder: Has any local individual written more letters than he? Has any individual aired more feelings and judgments than he? Mr. Wallace is proud of his extreme conservatism, and his musings are often salted with sarcasm directed at those who don’t share his views. Of course, he’s entitled to his opinion.

Now, however, he is running for the position of Selectman in Rockport. Our residents need a deeper understanding of what he believes and stands for. A quick sampling of his totally public personal posts and shared posts on Facebook is revealing:

“The hypocrisy of the Jan 6 investigation is EPIC!” [Shown over a collage of images showing burning buildings and streets, presumably a BLM reference.]

“ACCORDING TO SCIENCE & RELIGION THERE ARE ONLY TWO GENDERS” [Shown over a pair of images featuring hyper-masculine and hyper-feminine models with a quote from the Bible.]

“If an 18-year-old isn’t ‘mature enough’ to own a firearm, then maybe 5-year-olds aren’t mature enough to change their gender.”

Posts flagged by Facebook itself as “False information” or “lacking context” include: “But Joe heads over to the Saudis to beg for oil…. Disgusting!” and “NEVER FORGET DEMOCRATS CHEERED RIOTERS FOR 8 MONTHS.”

Posts arguing against women’s right to abortion.

Post comparing the similar traits and firepower of a common semi-automatic hunting rifle with modern military-grade assault weapons. The comparison conspicuously neglects to mention high-capacity magazines, which is a crucial distinction.

(Note: Many of the postings cited above have now been scrubbed from his Facebook page. They have been previously captured, however, as screen shots showing Doc as the originator or sharing partner.)

Elections for local government are a steppingstone from the grassroots to the larger statewide stage. We believe that Rockport residents deserve better than this. Most of the undersigned are supporting Denise Munger, others are considering Dana Jackson. All of us are certain that Doc Wallace is totally unsuitable. Your involvement is necessary to send a clear message. Vote August 30.
