WALDOBORO — Medomak Valley’s initial foray into preseason high school soccer for 2022 proved twice as much fun because the Panthers hosted a pitch doubleheader with Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield.

The Panther boys won 4-1 and Medomak Valley lost 4-2.

In the boys game, for Medomak Valley, Mohamedi Ngido scored in the first two minutes. Zan Nguyen had a shot on net that was deflected and landed at Ngido’s feet. The talented Panther beat the keeper to the far post

Vishal Mellor headed in a goal midway through the first half on a cross from Ngido.

The Panthers also got second-half scores from Slavik Moody and Nevan Power.

Slavik dribbled across the top of the 18-yard line and struck a low line drive to beat the keeper to his left.

MCI tallied a second-half goal on a long shot from just outside the 18 that hit the far post in the air and went in.

Eli Pluecker played in net for MVHS.

Panther girls coach Darryl Townsend said he “played every kid in the program” on Saturday to get everyone’s feet wet early in the preseason. Mandi Karl and Katana Williamson tallied goals for the Panthers.
