ST. GEORGE — Jackson Memorial Library, 71 Main St., hosts an author talk with Margie Patlak Wednesday, Aug. 31, at 5 p.m. Patlak will be talking about her book “More Than Meets the Eye: Exploring Nature and Loss on the Coast of Maine.”

Patlak was eager to learn more about the environment of her new abode on the Schoodic peninsula when she set out to write a book about the nature of Maine 10 years ago. But soon it also became a book about what the nature of Maine taught her about the nature of life.

Patlak is an award-winning science writer and memoirist who has written hundreds of articles about the environment, neuroscience, biomedical research, and technology for popular publications such as Discover magazine, The Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, The Philadelphia Inquirer and many others. Her personal essays, including one nominated for a Pushcart Prize, have appeared in a number of literary journals and newspapers. She has degrees in botany and environmental studies and divides her time between Philadelphia and Corea, Maine.
