SPRUCE HEAD — On Sunday, Aug. 21, at 3 p.m., Rockland native John Bird will regale his audience at the Spruce Head Community Hall with well-known (and even little-known) stories of the history of Rockland, once famed far and wide as Lime City.

Born in this historic hub of the lime and granite industries, and a graduate of Bowdoin College, John returned to the Midcoast in 1990 after a distinguished professional career in independent education. Since then, he has spent endless hours documenting Rockland’s fascinating history and has written two well-received books: “Rockland, Maine’s Tidal Turn,” and “Rockland, Maine: Rise and Renewal.” In addition, he and his wife Mary Alice have been active volunteers on local and regional boards and committees.

Following the illustrated presentation, John will be happy to answer questions, and refreshments will be available.
The Spruce Head Community Hall is on Village Road in downtown Spruce Head. For further information, call 594-8028.
