OWLS HEAD — Four people were injured Sunday morning, Aug. 7 when a car crashed into trees on the road leading to the Owls Head Lighthouse.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office reported that Knox Regional Communications Center received a report at 7:34 a.m. of a motor vehicle crash on Lighthouse Road in Owls Head. First responders arrived and found a 2016 Honda Civic, operated by Jayla Campbell, 22, of Turner Falls, Mass., had left the roadway, struck a utility wire and crashed into a tree. The car had been heading toward the lighthouse on the Lighthouse Road.

Three passengers were also involved in the crash, the front passenger had to be extricated. All vehicle occupants were taken to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. The incident is still under investigation but environmental factors (including glare from the sun) are being considered as a contributing factor in the crash.
