OWLS HEAD — The Mussel Ridge Historical Society announces the first in a series of its Summer Speakers on topics related to local history and events.

At 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 10, Charles “Chip” Lagerbom presents a talk entitled “Maritime History of the Muscle Ridge Channel” in the downstairs room of the Owls Head Community Building (224 Ash Point Dr. in Owls Head).

Lagerbom spent two summer field seasons in Antarctica studying glacial geology of the Trans-Antarctic Mountains and has organized underwater search surveys for ship remains in Maine lakes, the 1779 Penobscot Expedition, and the 17th century English galleon Angel Gabriel off Pemaquid. A published author, he guest lectures on cruise and expedition ships, sailing vessels and ashore about history, life, politics and science of Antarctica, Cape Horn and the South Atlantic, as well as colonial Maine and New England maritime history and archaeology. He writes a weekly column for The Camden Herald entitled “Half Seas Over.”
