CAMDEN — A 73-year-old man from the town of China has been charged for stealing from a local farmstand.

William McCaslin was issued a summons on Thursday, July 21, for theft, according to Camden Detective Sgt. Curt Andrick.

Andrick said the public was instrumental in helping police locate McCaslin. The department posted photographs of the man taken from a surveillance camera at the Beveridge Farm Stand on Turnpike Road in Camden.

McCaslin has a criminal record that includes similar types of theft, Detective Sgt. Andrick said.

The theft occurred July 6.

Cheryl Beveridge said the man in the photograph and video came to the store, was gathering produce including strawberries, cucumbers, cauliflower, and seven bunches of beet greens. He asked for additional beet greens and she went to get them and her husband had walked away briefly. He was taped removing money from the money box, as well as the produce he collected.

Officer Brook Hartshorn investigated the case.
