ST. GEORGE — Hedgerow Gallery hosts a show of oil paintings by Anne Cox titled “Chasing the Genius Loci,” which opens Wednesday, Aug. 5, and runs through Sunday, Aug. 21.

“I have for a long time been interested in understanding what constitutes the spirit of a place, its genius loci, and how to capture it in my work,” Cox said. For many years the medium Cox used was primarily that of landscape design. “By focusing on the inherent nature of a site my aim was to create landscapes that looked, as I liked to say, as if they had always been there. Now, in terms of my painting, I’m still after understanding — chasing, really — the patterns, colors and textures of this place where I live in Midcoast Maine.”

Hedgerow Gallery is located behind the Hedgerow market barn at 8 Ridge Road (the corner of Route 131 and Ridge Road) in the Martinsville section of St. George. Like the market, it is open Wednesdays through Sundays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visit hedgerowdesign.com for more information.
