Maine Master Gardener volunteer John Fromer will lead an outdoor presentation on pollinator-friendly perennials at Merryspring Nature Center Tuesday, Aug. 9 at noon.

Maine gardens are visited by many beneficial pollinators, including bees, hummingbirds, butterflies, beetles, wasps, and more. In this outdoor talk, John Fromer will focus about what species of butterfly and hummingbird can be found in Midcoast Maine, what they eat, and how to create habitat for them using the right plants in the right places. The program will also discuss how to care for pollinator-friendly plants to ensure these creatures visit the garden all season long. Following the lecture, guests can tour the Merryspring gardens to look for examples of pollinator-friendly plants.

John Fromer has been a Maine Master Gardener since 1998 and runs Appleton Ridge Flower and Vegetable Farm with his wife Kathy, also a Maine Master Gardener. He currently serves on the Merryspring board of trustees.

This talk is part of Merryspring’s Outdoor Summer Talk series, which are held in the Hexagon at Merryspring. The cost is $5 for the public, with a free admission for Merryspring members. No preregistration is necessary for this event.
