Knox County saw five additional COVID-19 cases during the past day, the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported Saturday, July 23.

Since the pandemic began in Maine in March 2020, 6,922 Knox County residents have been diagnosed with the virus (This does not include results from at-home tests), 96 have been admitted to hospitals, and 40 have died.

Statewide an additional 216 cases were reported during the past day. There was one additional death reported statewide July 23, increasing the number to 2,465.

There were 11 additional people statewide admitted to hospitals in Maine with COVID-19 during the past day, with the number at 5,300 since the pandemic began in March 2020.

The CDC reports 144 Mainers currently in the hospital, up from 119 last week. The peak was 436 in early January. Of the 144 hospitalized, 24 are in critical care units and none on a ventilator. Forty-four critical care beds are available in Maine.
