Maine Master Gardner volunteer John Fromer will lead an outdoor presentation, How Plants Grow (Botany in Disguise), at Merryspring Nature Center Tuesday, July 19 at noon.

In this outdoor program, Fromer will tell the story about the life cycle of plants from spring to fall and seed to frost, explaining how understanding plants on a biological level can lead to a healthier and more beautiful garden. Following the lecture, the program will then explore the Merryspring gardens to examine different plants and look for clues that show their growth cycles, potential problems, and practical solutions for the home gardener.

Fromer has been a Maine Master Gardener since 1998 and runs Appleton Ridge Flower and Vegetable Farm with his wife Kathy, also a Maine Master Gardener. He currently serves on the Merryspring board of trustees.

This talk is part of Merryspring’s Outdoor Summer Talk series. Outdoor talks are held in the Hexagon at Merryspring. The cost of this program is $5 for the general public, with a free admission for Merryspring members. No preregistration is necessary for this event.

Merryspring is located at the end of Conway Road, just off of Route 1 in Camden, behind Hannaford Shopping Plaza. For more information, contact info@merryspring.org or call 236-2239.
