ROCKLAND — A lack of staffing in the police department has led to the cancellation of the planned closure of Main Street on Friday night, July 1.

The City Council approved earlier this month the street closure for July 1, Aug. 5 and Sept. 2, which are all the first Fridays of the month.

City Manager Tom Luttrell said late Thursday, however, a lack of police officers and not enough volunteers from downtown led to the decision to forego closing the street.

The First Friday Art Walk will go on as scheduled from 4-8 p.m.
