WARREN — The Town of Warren Board of Selectmen Chair Jan Macdonald presented the Boston Post Cane to the town’s oldest, and one of the most cherished residents, Marion “Vella” Smith Friday, June 24, 2022.

The Boston Post Cane movement was started in 1909 by the Boston Post newspaper, and quickly took off in those municipalities lucky enough to receive the canes. The tradition continues in 700 municipalities throughout New England, honoring the oldest resident with a gold-tipped cane.
