THOMASTON — Planning is underway for a robust return of the old fashioned Independence Day Celebration in Thomaston we’ve hosted for many years. All activities are to be held on Independence Day, Monday, July 4, 2022.

Thus far, the day will feature a 5k road race, the craft tent (open 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.), the parade on Main St. (11 a.m. start, roads near parade route to close at 10 a.m.), food vendors, an opening ceremony following the parade behind the business block, a chicken BBQ, the Cod Adams Memorial horseshoe tournament (1 p.m.), a new corn hole tournament (3 p.m.), a huge selection of bouncy houses, activities and games for kids (from 12:30-6 p.m., with unlimited access for $5 per child.

Children may want to wear quick dry clothing like bathing suits, as there may be a water slide, a dunk tank to support the Thomaston Ambulance Association, several musical acts throughout the afternoon and evening including a performance by the Nikki Hunt Band, and a fireworks display to end the day’s festivities.

See our new website — — for updates and information. You can also check us out on Facebook (Thomaston Maine 4th of July Celebration).

Our parade theme for 2022 will be “Be Your Best Self!” There will be cash prizes for floats in the following categories: Closest to the theme, Most Patriotic, Most Creative and Most Humorous. Contact if you wish to participate in the parade. Parade applications can also be obtained from our new website.

Food vendors and people that want to sell other items at the event are still needed. If you have a food truck, a food trailer or a pop up business of some type, join us as a vendor for the festivities. Thousands of people attend the event and want a wide variety of food and wares.

Email or obtain a vendor application on our website.

More volunteers are needed leading up to and on the 4th of July. If you’d like to lend a hand to make our celebration as spectacular as possible, contact us at
