ROCKPORT — Join the Rockport Public Library, 1 Limerock St., for a sea shanties sing-along with performer and music instructor Joe Cough Thursday, June 30, from 2 to 3 p.m. This program is ideal for ages three and older, and is provided in partnership with Midcoast Music Academy.

Cough, who also performs as Erasmus More, is a Maine-based musician, educator and performer. He graduated from the College of the Atlantic and received his Master’s degree in Music Performance from the University of Maine. Specializing in French chansons, he also plays and teaches piano, guitar and music tech.

An avid composer and songwriter, he recently released an album titled “8 Bit Arias” inspired by his love of classical singing and game music from the ’80s and ’90s. He has performed widely around the state, most recently as a soloist for the Bangor Symphony as the tenor for Mozart’s “Mass in C Minor.”

As an educator, he teaches people of all ages and walks of life how to sing with healthy techniques in body and mind. He also teaches how to use various software and to compose music digitally so that no matter what training in music one has received, anyone can create music. He lives on the Midcoast with his wife, Hawthorne Smith, and their two boys.
