CAMDEN — On Tuesday, June 21, at 8 p.m., the Camden Public Library hosts an online discussion with Stephen Legawiec, artistic director for the Camden Shakespeare Festival. Legawiec will introduce Shakespeare’s comedy “As You Like It” and give participants a preview of how the play will be interpreted for performances this summer in the Camden Amphitheatre from July 13 through Aug. 7. Register for a Zoom link to attend by visiting the “What’s Happening” adult events calendar at librarycamden.org.
Legawiec and the Camden Shakespeare Festival are well-known for their daring and imaginative staging of Shakespeare’s plays. This year, Shakespeare’s beloved comedy “As You Like” will get a 1960’s “Summer of Love” makeover. Legaweic’s preview talk will provide fascinating insights into the play and the inspiration behind the festival’s unique staging.
The Camden Shakespeare Festival is a professional, non-profit theatre committed to producing Shakespeare’s plays chiefly in the Camden Amphitheatre. At the core of their mission is a passion to make Shakespeare’s plays accessible to contemporary Maine audiences, especially children. Learn more at camdenshakespeare.org.
