BAR HARBOR — Midcoast track-and-field student-athletes from Medomak Valley of Waldoboro, Belfast and Oceanside of Rockland soared to strong performances, including an individual championship from Panther Annie Vannoy in the 800 meters, on Saturday, June 4 in the state Class B championship meet at Mount Desert Island High School.

Panther, Lion and Mariner individuals and relay teams qualified for and competed at the talent-laden event, buoyed by Vannoy’s win in the 800.

Vannoy had an incredibly productive day as she also finished third in the long and triple jumps.

For other area squads, Oceanside’s Cassidy Novicka placed second in the triple jump and Belfast’s Andrew Abelon second in the long jump.

Lion Nicholas Ritchie was fourth in pole vault and Panther Josiah Hays fourth in the 110-meter hurdles.

The first-place finisher in each event at the state Class A, B and C championship meets, and the next three best times, heights and distances in those events, regardless of state affiliation, qualify for the New England championships on Saturday, June 11 at Willow Brook Park in New Britain, Conn.
