ROCKLAND — Longtime Rockland area school district business manager Peter Orne has been hired for the same position in the Camden area school district.

Regional School Unit 13 Superintendent John McDonald announced at the RSU 13 Board meeting on Thursday evening, June 2 that Orne had turned in his resignation notice. Orne has accepted the business manager position for the Camden area schools.

Orne had announced earlier in the year he would not seek re-election to the Five-Town Community School District/School Administrative District 28 Boards. His term was expiring this month. When he was informed that he was being given an interview for the Camden business manager post, he resigned his school board seat, Five-Town/SAD 28 Superintendent Maria Libby said.

The Camden area Boards approved him as business manager on Wednesday night, June 1.

“He has been such a great partner. He has been a tremendous asset,” McDonald said.

Orne has been business manager for RSU 13 for eight years, being hired in July 2014 within a week of McDonald’s hiring as superintendent.

Board Chair Loren Andrews said McDonald and Orne have made a great team for the past eight years and Orne will be remarkably missed.

Board member Carol Bachofner said that his resignation was a “terrible” loss for the district.

The superintendent said Orne would have been in attendance Thursday night to make the announcement himself but that he was driving a school bus for the varsity baseball team since there was no one else available and team would have had to forfeit if they did not have a driver.

Orne arrived at the meeting later in the evening and said he the opportunity to serve in his Camden community was an opportunity he could not pass up. He thanked the Board for its support over the years and the opportunity to serve the community.
